It's here!!! The day all the northern hemisphere has waited for. The longest day of the year. The day when sunshine rules the heavens. Do you do anything special on this day?
Living in the Pacific Northwest, we are not guaranteed to experience this day. For many years, we are locked in grey clouds and rain until after July 4th. When that happens, a gentle sorrow hangs over me. I yearn to watch the sky hold the suns radiance until ten pm. To sit on my porch listening as life continues to play farther into sunlit night. On this longest of days, I contemplate the chasm of dark from the light.
This year, I am caught up in the dark and the light we each carry within. Which we often exude as we move through life. It seems reasonable to me that both light and dark are required for a full life. Nature demonstrates it over and over. One without the other is impossible. They are linked out of wisdom and necessity.
Yet, we as humans struggle with dark. We associate dark with fear, failure, loss, and lack. But what if it wasn't? What if we gave our dark a different definition.
What if it was illuminating, rich, powerful, and renewing?
After all, isn't it during our personal darknesses that we self-reflect the most? I believe as we reflect, our light shines through. Just like the stars at night, or a blazing sunrise or sunset. Those lights would have no impact, if it weren't for the dark.
I invite you, on this day of long sunny light, to cast your gratitude's for all the dark within you. For without your dark, none of us would have your light.
Happy Solstice, dear friends.
