I was taking a walk this morning and thinking of you. Surprising as it is, we are nine days into 2025. Isn't that remarkable? By now we are back to our routines. There can be mixed feelings about those routines. On the one hand it can be calming to return to the familiar. Yet, on the other, there could be a yearning to not being in the familiar. That's where my mind was when I was taking that walk.
Changes in routines take us to a part of ourselves we may not remember. Routine's well-worn path can often numb us from the breadth of ourselves. Often at the end of the holiday season, when we have had a break from the routine, we dream of the life that fits those other parts of our soul that we yearn for. As the year closes, we set a goal, an intention, or a resolution. Around the second week of January, the routine's worn path, takes us back. What if this year, starting today, you did things differently?
5 Minute a Day Plan -
One of our favorite Christmas movies is White Christmas. In an early scene in the movie, Danny Kaye's character pleads with Bing Crosby's character to find a girl, get married and have nine children. So that Danny Kaye can have some time off from work. Kaye's character says to Bing Crosby, "If you spend only 5 minutes a day with each child. That's 45 minutes a day. Then I can get a haircut, or shave, or something."
What about you?
As 2025 rolls forth, what can you do for 5 minutes a day that is only for you? Pick one thing, anything, especially if it is harmonious to you, and do that thing for 5 minutes each day. Sip a favorite drink, cuddle up with a book, take a gentle walk, sit on your porch or patio, write in your journal, pet your favorite animal, listen to music you love, take a scenic drive. Or anything you love or yearn to do.
Just 5 minutes a day for you. If 5 minutes bleeds into 25 or 45 minutes, great. Those five minutes will renew you and recalibrate your body and soul. That is not an understatement. On a cellular level you will reconnect to your body and spirit rhythm. Take a chance and try it. Don't worry about doing the exact same thing every day, leave yourself open to personal inspiration for what you choose to fill your 5 minutes with. This is a celebration of you. Bask in it.
Happy January to you.
Sending you as many divine minutes each and every day dearest heart. You are loved, you are worthy, you are divine and you are so appreciated.
